PAUL'S PLACE

BORDEAUX

Welcome to Paul's Place, a small restaurant in the heart of Bordeaux serving great home-cooking in the evenings, and so much more besides . . .

People are drawn into Paul's Place by the enchanting decor and, on regular occasions, by the special events taking place – live music, poetry readings, table magic, exhibitions, drama and cultural gatherings. The walls, and even the ceiling, are richly covered with images and artefacts. Paul's Place has been described by many as a cocoon or a treasure box and it is not uncommon for passers-by to stop and take photographs through the open doorway.

Whatever the occasion, a drink with a friend, a quiet meal en famille, or the party atmosphere of a live music event, Paul and Josephine will provide a personal welcome. We both hail from Cambridge, England, ending up in Bordeaux by way of Bohemia! Our wish is to create an atmosphere full of contrasts and connections that is both safe and stimulating, familiar yet improbable and will provide our guests with happy, lingering memories. The food we serve is the kind of food we cook and eat at home, inspired by cuisines from around the world.

We look forward to sharing Paul's Place with you soon.

I'll be back!

Recommended by the Independent (UK newspaper) no less!

In their article '10 Things To Do In Bordeaux' they wrote:

Hang out in the Chartrons district. One of Bordeaux’s hippest neighbourhoods, the Chartrons district, blends elegant mansions with former warehouses. It’s home to a number of chic boutiques offering designer homeware, bric-a-brac and antiques, particularly along Rue Notre Dame. Take a table at Paul’s Place, a charming bistrot rammed to the rafters with vintage paintings and unique objets d’arts.

"A must for tourists and à découvrir pour les français !"

I have walked past this place hundreds of times in the past 8 years, but we finally had a chance to stop in for lunch. The atmosphere is unique, there's plenty to look at and ponder. The food is superb. Dishes are all home cooked and the menu has good variety. We had soup, a main dish and dessert. The cost is well below what you usually pay for far lower quality fare. Eventually, you tire of the heavy southwestern food of Bordeaux, and this is one of the places you should visit for a healthy respite from that heavier cuisine.
Paul's Place has music and other events on the weekends, too.

Merci

“Paul's place.”

Paul's Place was recommended in literature at our accommodation and was our dinner destination for our first night in Bordeaux. We were enchanted from the minute we arrived, greeted with a warm handshake & smile from Paul. The decor is eclectic, crazy and stunning all at the same time. The wine, simple but delicious menu and wonderful service made it a night to remember. Very highly recommended.

"Cocoon"

"Simple, well presented and delicious"

“So British, so cool”
